In this blog post, I am going to share my press on nail routine, including some tips and tricks that I have learned to help my nails last a long time. As a barista, my nails are constantly in water, exposed to moisture, and being use as tools. When I first started using glue-on nails a few months ago, I struggled to get them to stay on for even a few days, but now, I have had them last over a week, which is really good considering my job and lifestyle. I hope these tips help and if you haven't used press on nails before, I highly recommend giving them a try.
Find a good quality brand
The brand of nails you use can make a huge difference in the longevity of your press ons. Personally, I use the brand Glamnetic. Their nails are durable, and the glue is very strong. I have been very happy with Glamnetic and recommend them if you are looking for good quality for an affordable price.
I also have a blog post on my favorite press-on nails where I go more in detail on Glamnetic and some of my favorite nail designs.
Prep your nails
I always start by filing my nails down, filing/buffing the surface, and pushing back the cuticle. You want to file the nail's surface enough to rough it up, giving the glue more to adhere to, but don't do it too much because you don't want to damage or weaken your natural nail. Pushing back the cuticle will also help by giving the fake nail more surface to stick to. It will also make the manicure look neater. Lastly, you want to use an alcohol pad or acetone to dry out your nail, since the glue won't stick well to moisture.
Prep the fake nail: I like to file the inside of the fake to to rough it up a bit as well.
Applying the nails
There is some back and forth about how to apply the nail glue, but personally, I put the glue on my real nail and then lay the fake nail on top. Then you want to push the nail down and into the cuticle slightly, which will make the nail stick better and look more natural. Hold for about 30 seconds, and then make sure the nail is stuck in place really well.
Extra Nail Care: Add cuticle oil and moisturizer when finished.
I'll include a link below to shop some of my favorite press on nails as well.
